सुप्रीम कोर्ट कॉलेजियम ने तीन हाई कोर्ट मुख्य न्यायाधीशों को सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में शामिल करने की सिफ़ारिश की

The Supreme Court Collegium, at its meeting held on September 28, 2026, has recommended the elevation of three serving Chief Justices of High Courts to the Supreme Court, according to a statement issued by the apex court.

The recommendations concern Justice Sunita Agarwal, Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court; Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court; and Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana.

The Collegium has recommended their appointment as Judges of the Supreme Court, marking a significant step in the process of strengthening the composition of the country’s highest constitutional court.

Justice Sunita Agarwal, presently heading the Gujarat High Court, has Allahabad as her parent High Court. Her elevation would bring to the Supreme Court a judge with extensive experience in constitutional, civil and commercial adjudication.

Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, is also from the Allahabad High Court as his parent High Court. His proposed elevation comes after his tenure at the helm of the Delhi High Court, one of the country’s busiest constitutional courts.

The third recommendation is that of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, who is presently serving as Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana. His parent High Court is Jharkhand.

The Collegium’s recommendation is part of the constitutionally prescribed process for appointments to the Supreme Court. The recommendations will now proceed through the subsequent stages of consideration before the appointments are formally notified.

With the latest recommendations, the Collegium has proposed the elevation of three High Court Chief Justices who bring with them experience of leading different High Courts and handling substantial constitutional and legal matters.

The Supreme Court Collegium comprises the Chief Justice of India and senior-most judges of the Supreme Court. Its recommendations form the first substantive stage in the appointment process for judges of the higher judiciary, with the final appointment being made by the President of India in accordance with the constitutional framework.

The official statement issued following the September 28 meeting specifically records that the Collegium recommended the elevation of Justice Sunita Agarwal, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh as Judges of the Supreme Court.
